Abstract

The field notes and diary document Bohumil Shimek's work in Iowa, April 12 - 18, 1913; October 8, 1915; April 22-23, 1916; June 25 - July 6, 1920; August 25 - September 18, 1922; November 7-20, 1926. The entries are dated and describe destinations, travel details, times of day, terrain observed along railroad lines, accommodations, weather, daily activities, list of plants at locations (sited with local landmarks), geological sections, meetings with colleagues, and chronological lists of expenses. There are hand drawn maps. A quarter of the notebook is blank. Locations include the vicinity of Iowa City, Confalls [Confals], Bayfield, Earlville, Homestead, Muscatine Island, and Mason City, Iowa.
