Entries describe travel details, plants observed, weather,photographs taken (numbered and with description), and collected (live) shells. There are descriptions of oaks and oak groves; these are numbered and include descriptions of individual parts (bark) and location. Terrain described is along railroads and banks of inland bodies of water. Entries are describe revisiting locations, and noting changes to terrain like timber removal. Some notes are crossed out. Includes hand drawn maps. Locations include the vicinity of Decorah, Eldon, Unionville, Keokuk, Swisher, Lake Mills, Mason City, City Park, Homestead, Winterset, Quincy, Confals, Vinton, Earlham, and Iowa City, Iowa.
