The field notes document Bohumil Shimek's work in Iowa, South Dakota, August 10 - September 2, 1910. Pages are numbered. Entries are dated and include descriptions of photographs taken (numbered, with description), list of plants (with notes) headed by location, rough sketches of locations, descriptions (layers, appearance, color, composition) of terrain (drifts, slides, pits, cuts), geological sections, maps of locations observed, lists of barometric elevations, and dated list of expenses. Cuts in terrain are often numbered when described. Locations include Dacota [James River], Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Larchwood, Klondike, Granite, Iowa.
