Abstract

The field notes document Bohumil Shimek's work in Harrison and Monona counties, Iowa, November 21, 1908 - March 1, 1909. Pages are numbered. Entries are dated and describe travel details, cuts into the terrain (layers, color, appearance, composition), photographs taken, maps of sites observed, list of plants, details about farmer's histories planting fruit trees, descriptions of different types of tree groves (numbered and listed by type, many are maple or walnut), interactions with colleagues and their collections (Mr. Gilder), and list of expenses. Some notes are crossed out. Locations include the vicinity of Onawa and Persia, Iowa.
