Abstract

The field notes document Bohumil Shimek's work in New Mexico, May 14 - 27, 1904, and August 15 - 31, 1907. Pages are numbered. Entries are dated and sometimes include location. Entries describe travel (method and times); terrain (plains desert, lava beds, erosion) and vegetation (types of trees) seen enroute; locations visited; local inhabitants met; specimen collecting; lists of plants seen at field sites; daily activities; notes about local communities; and ground composition, color, appearance. Includes list of expenses, a description of a bull fight. Locations include Cox Canyon, Carrizozo flats, Mal Pais (or Malpais), Alamogordo, Tula Rosa, Alkali desert, and Ft Bliss, New Mexico.
