Abstract

The field notes and 1 map document Bohumil Shimek's work in Mississippi, Arkansas, December 26, 1906 - January 1907. The entries are dated and sometimes headed with location. Entries describe method of travel, lists of photographs taken including subject matter, weather, and cuts in terrain created for construction of railway line. Cuts are numbered and descriptions include details about layers, composition, color, appearance, measurements, fossils (shells). Some entries also describe communities visited. There is a list of elevations and locations, hand drawn maps , geological sections, and sketches. The loose map is of the vicinity of Helena, Arkansas. Locations include Natchez, Mississippi; Vicksburg; Helena, Arkansas; and Forrest City (state unidentified).
