Abstract

The field notes and 1 map document Bohumil Shimek's work in Iowa, Nebraska, Illinois, Wisconsin, November 16 -December 1, 1906. Pages are numbered. Entries are headed with dates and locations. Entries discuss travel, work with colleagues, terrain seen enroute, and descriptions of bluffs and cuts in terrain created the railroad lines. Descriptions of cuts includes discussion of layers and their composition, appearance, color, measurements, and fossils (shells). Sometimes entries refer to local landmarks when identifying locations. Includes hand drawn maps of sites observed, geological sections, some barometric readings, notes about photographs taken, and a chronological list of expenses. Some notes have been crossed out. Includes loose, hand drawn map of vicinity of Galena, Illinois. Locations include the vicinity of Calmar, Iowa; Bridgeport, Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin; Galena, Illinois; Bruno, Seward, Nebraska.
