PrintThe field notes document Bohumil Shimek's work in Iowa and Nebraska, June 17-July 1905; and August 1906. Notations indicate some notes have been copied. Some entries are headed with date and location with descriptions of terrain and geology of cuts into hillsides along railroad lines. Each of these descriptions is numbered and followed with descriptions of color, composition, measurements, and other characteristics of layers. There are also hand drawn maps with notes of some locations. Other entries are headed with a destination ranges, with descriptions of terrain between the two. There are lists of trees based on tree characteristic (rough bark, low timber). Also contains diagrams and lists of expenses during geological survey. Locations are in the vicinity of Blair, Nebraska; Platte River; Shelby, Sioux City, Iowa; and Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
