Abstract

The field notes and diary document Bohumil Shimek's work in Iowa, April 17, 1905 - May 1906. Pages are numbered. Includes notes on geology, followed by botany. First entries are dated and sometimes headed with destination ranges for trips taken. Details include descriptions of terrain observed; and route taken (railroad). Sites studied were cuts in the terrain made for the construction of the railroad. These sites are numbered and described with location, depth, color, composition, presence of fossils (shells), sketches, and sections. Botany notes are dated and describe tree groves with information about photographs taken, height and width, and terrain. Some notes are crossed out.
