Abstract

Field notes and diary document Bohumil Shimek's work in Kansas, Missouri, New Mexico, Texas, August 1903 - October 1904, though chronological is not continuous. Pages are numbered. Entries are generally headed with date and include locations, times of day, other travel details; description of terrain (bluffs, hills, rivers) and vegetation seen during travel by rail; and list of expenses listed by location. Further along he begins to list types of trees observed, size, elevation, pictures taken, local inhabitants met, notes on shells collected (with sketch of location collected). In section that has been crossed out are detailed notes about observed terrain and composition of bluffs in St. Joseph Missouri. In back is an index by location, and geological sections of bluffs. Notes from October 1904 cover geological observations indicating location with street names and landmarks. Town and state is unclear.
