Abstract

Field notes and diary document Bohumil Shimek's work in Natchez, Mississippi, 1898. Pages are numbered; some entries are dated ands are journal style. Begins with a list of dates, method of travel (rail), and destinations, with some information about surrounding vegetation. Entries become more detailed and discuss observations of local environment and communities, observed relations between African Americans and whites, interactions with local inhabitants, terrain, types of trees observed, weather, daily activities, specimen collecting, and specimen preparation. Much of the second half of the diary is crossed out, and noted to have been copied.
