Abstract

The botanical notebook (1 of 6) documents Bohumil Shimek's work in Nicaragua, 1892-1893. Entries are headed with location or specimen number (1-122). Entries describe type of plant, sources of specimens, locations where found (terrain, environment), sometime notes about used of plants for medicinal purposes, and descriptions of characteristics (color, size) by part (leaf, flower, fruit). Includes extensive illustrations of plant parts with notes. At the end is a list of collected specimens (with quantities) from San Carlos, dated January 1893. Locations include the vicinity of Isla de Omotepe, Moyogalpa, and San Carlos in Nicaragua.
