Abstract

This item contains several lists and catalogs. The first is catalogue of the birds of the Hudson River Valley in the collection of Edgar A. Mearns as of April 15, 1883. This catalog lists species of birds mostly collected in New York and beneath those species, lists collections made, which include collector number, sex and age, and month collected. This list is followed by "Birds in my collection which I collected myself, but not in the Hudson Valley," by Mearns, circa 1880s. The next list is "Birds collected by me at Circleville, Ohio, and now in my collection," by Mearns, followed by "Birds collected at Fort Klamath, Oregon, by Lieutenant Willis Wittich, and now in my collection," by Mearns. Finally, "Birds in my collection from various parts of North America from various ornithologists," is included. This list includes these names and more: Eaggle, Wheaton, Merriam, Lente, Ridgway, Gente, Wilson, Osborn, Thorne, and Breese.
