Abstract

The travel diary is the fourth of four field books documenting Bohumil Shimek's observations in Nicaragua, April 4 - 16, 1893. Notes start from front and back. One direction, entries are dated and discuss method of travel, individuals met, places visited, description of terrain, work at plantations, weather, specimens collected, fauna observed (birds), and voyage back to United States. From the other direction are numbered descriptions of flora, including illustrations, descriptions of appearance listed by part (root stem, leaf, flower), and measurements. Locations include Boca del Rama, Rama river, and Cape Gracias de Dios [Cabo Gracias a Dios], Nicaragua.
