Panama, C. O. Erlanson, 1945
Close
PrintThis field book contains notes on botanical specimens C. O. Erlason collected with Johnston in Panama from 7 March to 10 August 1945. Collector numbers 1-597 are included. Field notes begin with Johnston’s Check-list, a list of plants on right hand pages with notes on some specimens written in-line on the left hand pages; presumably the specimens were checked off as they were found and collected. Specimens that are good indicators for diffusion of gas are noted. Following this list is a not that from 4/6 to 4/13, Erlason and Johnston explore various areas to determine dominate forms of vegetation. This note is followed by a specimen list dated 30 April-10 August 1945 including name, brief physical description, and locality. Localities often refer to facilities (perhaps near the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute). Localities include but are not limited to headquarters, main beach, East Harbor, South Beach, naval cove, the Tetragastris Forest, and Playa Grande. Expenses are included at at the beginning.
