Abstract

Field journal covers Edmund Heller's work from December 1915 to February 1916 relating to work completed during the National Geographic Society Yale University Peruvian Expedition, 1915. Entries are dated and cover his departure from New York; sea conditions during cruise; weather; arrival to Jamaica and trip to Hope Botanical Garden; description of vegetation and terrain; marine life, mammals, birds observed, including during sea voyage; daily activities with expedition; visits to zoos, national museums, and botanical gardens; and participants. Most travel is by sea or train. When travel is by train, elevation is indicated. Locations include the vicinity of Puná Island (Ecuador); Bay of Panama; Cachendo, Medanos, and Pampa de Islay [Pampa de La Joya], Peru. Many location references indicate stations.
