Abstract

This field book contains field notes of collections Stelfox made from 28 June to 21 July 1951 in Scotland and 1 April to 11 August 1952 in Ireland. Notes from vol. 18 continue on page 45. Most specimens collected were insects, primarily hymenoptera. Other types of specimens may have been collected. Notes on botanical specimens observed and possibly collected are also included. Stelfox lists the name of the specimen, date collected, sex, quantity, sometimes remarks on the weather, location, sometimes specific type of environment, sometimes remarks about which specimens he would like to collect, sometimes additional information. Localities include, but are not limited to Ben Lawers , Acharn, Killoughter, and Kilbride. 'R.C.L.P' following a name signifies that specimen were seen and verified by D. R. C. L. Perkins, F.R.S. Photos are also included: two photos of Stelfox collecting taken by K. G. R. Smith are inserted at page 76; photo of Stelfox at summit of Ben Lawers inserted at page 90. Also included are notes on beetles, botanical specimen, photos, and correspondence from R. L. Coe to Stelfox inserted at page 170. Also included is a hand sketched map of Lawer Burn Basin.
