Abstract

This field book contains field notes of collections Stelfox made from 21 September 1949 to 13 March 1952 in Scotland and Ireland. Most specimens collected were insects, primarily hymenoptera. Other types of specimens may have been collected. Notes on botanical specimens observed and possibly collected are also included. Stelfox lists the name of the specimen, date collected, sex, quantity, sometimes remarks on the weather, location, sometimes specific type of environment, sometimes remarks about which specimens he would like to collect, sometimes additional information. Localities include, but are not limited to Killen, The Murrough, Cerne Valley (dorset UK), Studland (dorset), Monaghan, and Manor Kilbride. 'R.C.L.P' following a name signifies that specimen were seen and verified by D. R. C. L. Perkins, F.R.S. Miscellaneous notes and correspondence inserted at page 122. Inserted at page 140: “List of asulealis taken in Dorset by A. W. Stelfox, 1950” and a postcard from O. W. Richards. Botanical specimen inserted at page 341.
