Abstract

This field book documents Kearney's research in North Carolina and Virginia in 1898. A one-page essay, entitled "Criticism Shaler's Theory of Origin of Lake Drummond," is pasted into the beginning of the volume. The remainder of the volume consists of a specimen list for plants collected between May 6 and November 11, 1898. For collection numbers 1000-1447 (May 6 - 30), Kearney provides collection number, field identification, and general location information. Beginning with collection number 1448 (July 1898), Kearney begins adding more descriptive information on the location (i.e., "on the beach a little above high tide"; "edge of a pond behind dunes-- also covering some of the lower inner dunes."
