Abstract

This field book contains field notes of collections Stelfox made from 16 August 1944 to 8 August 1946 in Ireland. A note on the title page reads "Kerry trip May-June 1946 in next volume". Most specimens collected were insects, primarily hymenoptera. Other types of specimens may have been collected. Notes on botanical specimens observed and possibly collected are also included. Stelfox lists the name of the specimen, date collected, sex, quantity, sometimes remarks on the weather, location, sometimes specific type of environment, sometimes remarks about which specimens he would like to collect, sometimes additional information. Localities include, but are not limited to Glenasmole, Athdown, Royal Canal, Rye Water, Phoenix Park, Merrion Square, and Bellina. 'R.C.L.P' following a name signifies that specimen were seen and verified by D. R. C. L. Perkins, F.R.S. A photograph of Glen of Aherlow, Galtee Mountains (west end and centre), Co. Tipperary taken by the Irish Tourist Association, Inc and miscellaneous notes are inserted at the title page. A small sketched map of Killiney Bay and notes of specimens collected by Philip Harwood are inserted at page 76.
