Abstract

Journal and field notes kept by Stevan J. Arnold on a field trip to collect carpenter bees in Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Mexico from 25 June to 12 September 1965. Specific localities include but are not limited to the following Costa Rica locations: Cartago Provence, slope of Volcán Irazú, Playas de Coco in Guauacaste Provence, slope of Cerro de La Mueurte, Desamparados in San Jose Provence. Also includes data on field work conducted in California, 8-9 April 1963. Arnold collected and observed bees and other insects and notes abundance of species, absence of species, and methods of collecting and identifying bees. Notes on collecting and observing other specimens such as botanical specimens that serve as host plants to bees, amphibians like frogs, and birds are also included. Collector and accession numbers for specimens are included, but are dispersed throughout the the notebook, which is written in the narrative style. Collector numbers possibly range between 229-283 SJA, but higher or lower numbers may be included. Also included at the end is a list of expedition equipment and a list of contacts.
