Abstract

Field notes document the work of Thomas Vaughan in the vicinity of Virginia Beach and Cape Henry, February 1913. Includes maps and postcards of the area. Postcards document observed coastlines, and some have additional handwritten descriptions. Content of entries varies. Includes a combination of overall descriptions of area referring to waterways, marshes, and dunes, some with measurements. Later entries are detailed descriptions of topography, measurements, sketches, sections with notes, references to accuracy of prior observations. Some include time of day and work completed, methods of measurement, citations, specimens collected, photographs taken, notes of people to contact, and description of terrain relating to passage of time. Locations include Elizabeth River and Elizabeth City.
