Abstract

The typed field book and notes document L. Walkinshaw's observations of birds in Michigan, 1983. The loose notes cover observations May 6 - 10, 1983 of Sandhill Cranes and their nests at Betchler Lakes, Schoolcraft County, including description of environment, vegetation, eggs (quantity, measurements), and bird counts. The spiral notebook includes birds first seen for the season in Michigan listing species, quantity, county, township, section, and date; bird counts ordered by county and township, listing date ranges, and additional notes; detailed notes on nest observations of Sandhill Cranes and other birds with subdivisions of location, nest (construction, measurements, environment and vegetation), parents (behaviors), eggs (quantity, measurements, weight), and followup observations; followed up with a table of bird data on a trip of upper peninsula, June 1983. Some notes towards the end of the notebook are hand written. Locations include upper peninsula, Haehnle Sanctuary in Jackson County, and Michigan counties of Ingham, Schoolcraft, Baraga, Gratiot, Alger, and Marquette.
