Abstract

Alexander Wetmore records observation of birds in the vicinity of his hometown, North Freedom, Wisconsin, 1898-1904. Entries are chronological, headed with the date, journal-style, and pages are numbered. The first 38 pages are missing. Entries are in an account ledger, of which pages 39-48 are filled. First entry has a note stating "this is copied from a small pocket notebook," and is initials by Wetmore. Descriptions cover terrain traveled, common names of birds observed, their appearance, behavior, and birdsongs. Wetmore spent time in the woods and wetlands around his family's property.
