Abstract

The two field books document L. Walkinshaw's observation of birds in Banks Island, Northwest Territories, Canada, 1964. The first notebook (small, black) May 29 - June 29, 1964. includes observations of nests including location, other individual observers, type of bird, date found, sketch indicating location, vegetation, and description (including presence and quantity of eggs) with measurements. Topics like vegetation are broken out in the notes. Includes a table listed by date, or time spent observing and data collected at Banks Island. Locations include Fort Smith. The second field book (large, green) covers June 12 - 19, 1964, beginning with a list of weather ranges for the years of 1963-1964, by month. Entries are dated and journal style. Details forms of travel, individuals with whom he worked, daily activities, observations of cranes and other birds and their nests, nest construction, bird specimen collecting, descriptions of hikes from the campsite with directions. Locations include the vicinity of Amundsen Gulf.
