Abstract

Alexander Wetmore records observations and bird specimens collected in Kansas, New York, Canada, and Colorado, 1908-1909. Specimen numbers include 3635 - 4313. Entries are chronological and pages are numbered. Specimen details covered are: bird name, collector, description, location, size (measurements), and sex. The first 25 pages list of specimens from various sources and numerous locations (some international). Some include specimens collected by H.W. Wright (Pasadena, California) with another set of specimen numbers.|Wetmore collected around Canandaigua Lake, New York (July 9 - August 31). Notes for this trip start with an explanation of the travels in the area and his impressions. He describes the terrain, weather, and observed birds in detail, though no specimens are listed. He frequents Whiskey Point. Includes a loose insert bird list from Canandaigua Lake, New York. He was in Rockport, Ontario, Canada (August 15 - 22). This section includes a description of the town, terrain surrounding, with some discussion of the geology of the area. Discusses in detail the birds he observed, though no specimens are noted. He includes observations for New York State on September 1. April 11 - August 22, Wetmore collected in the area around Golden, Colorado. Includes descriptions of specimens and detailed observations of the day's outings, some near Hazeltine and Cattle Rock. There are several mentions of collecting with Bob Rockwell, and Harry Taylor, and Sloyd Russel. Some specimens come from E. Carter and Mr. Hersey. |Along left-hand side of entries in back (even pages 284-298) includes alphabetical index with page numbers.
