Abstract

Alexander Wetmore records observations and information about bird specimens in the area of North Freedom, Wisconsin, Lawrence, Kansas, and Stockton,California, August - September 1906. The notebook begins with a list of birds observed in the spring migration in Lawrence, Kansas. Following this, entries are chronological and headed by date. Notes highlighting bird types or giving additional information about specimens are listed on the left-hand side. The first journal-style entry is a continuation of August 30th from prior notebook covering February - August 1906. Entries have details about specimens: collector, location, appearance, stomach contents. These are followed by a descriptions of the outing during which the specimens were collected: weather, environment (sometimes quite detailed on stone and vegetation), bird behavior and appearances. Includes monthly bird lists on pages 143, 231, 291, and a loose insert for May. While in Wisconsin, Wetmore notes collecting with Art Rudy.|October 1906 - January 1907, Wetmore describes his trip to and time in Stockton, California. He discusses observations made during the train ride through Colorado, Arizona, and Bakersfield, California. He collects around Stockton, including the vicinity of the San Joaquin River.
