Abstract

The motion picture documents Waldo Schmitt's work during the Smithsonian-Bredin Belgian Congo Expedition, 1955. The 61 minute motion picture exists as Reels 18, 20; film transfer with wet gate; 3/4" U-matic videotape; July 6, 1995; and a digital file. It shows flora and fauna, native dancers, inland waters (lakes and rivers), dredging for specimens, local communities, insect specimens, sculptures, Waldo Schmitt talking with colleagues (over maps), industrial facilities, local specialized fishing techniques, preparing rodent specimens, and elephants at Gangala-Na-Bodio elephant training station.
