Abstract

The notebook are the field notes of Max M. Ellis on crawfish and discoderilled worms collected in Montana, Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, Oregon, and Kansas, 1948-1951. Relates to United States National Museum accession #246901. Begins with an explanation of change in method of collecting and locations included. Entries are organized by locality and include assigned number, date, location with landmarks, elevation, description of the body of water (measurements of width, depth, floor composition), surrounding flora and fauna, specimens collected, quantity, and water temperature. Some entries include revisits to sites, with descriptions. Some notes include information from local inhabitants about locations of fish and marine life. Locations include but not limited to the vicinity of Jasper, Oregon; Bear River, Idaho; Alma, Kansas; Bend, Oregon; Owyhee River; Missoula, Montana; and Los Angeles County, California. Includes a list of of collections sent to the United States National Museum in 1953 from Columbia, Missouri.
