Abstract

Marked "memo of collection", the list of specimens was created by Lieutenant H.R. Stevens for the United States North Pacific Exploring Expedition (1853-1856), August 11 - September 13, 1853. Describes marine specimens, several of which are not identified, but whose characteristics and behavior are described as "phosphorescent" and "sparks of fire". List details number, location caught (latitude and longitude), size measurements, method collected, and physical description. Includes also shells, a bird, and squid.
