Abstract

Volume 74 are the journals of F.C. Thompson and M.C. Thompson completed for the Pacific Ocean Biological Survey Program, 1965-1967. Includes a mixture of typed and hand written copies of journals. 1) are the catalogs of F. Chris Thompson from Southern Island Cruise [SIC] #15, 16, 18 (October, December 1966, March-April 1967), Leeward Islands, May-June 1967. Includes species notes on birds, ectoparasite summary and work completed, Arthropod notes. Catalog lists type, sex, number, age, location (sometimes latitude and longitude), band number, measurements, weight, date, collector, and varying additional descriptions like molt and fat amount. Includes preprinted observation sheets including type of bird for counts, and maps with notes. Locations include islands of Howland, Baker, Enderbury, Swains, Hull, Laysan, Lisianski, and Pearl and Hermes Reef. 2) is the journal of Max C. Thompson for SIC #7, January 2 -March 12, 1965. Entries are dated and headed with location. Entries detail daily work with times of day, individual and groups of birds observed, blood samples, bird banding, work completed on islands, and observations of rat populations. Includes maps. In addition to locations listed above, includes Fakaofo, Tokelau, Nokunono, and Atofu. 3) is M. Thompson's journal from the Southern Island Cruise, January 6 - April 18, 1966. Dated entries are headed with location and begin with notes about work to be completed and parameters in collecting and blood samples taken, staff assignments, daily work completed with time of day, lists and descriptions of birds (groups and individual) observed. Sometimes notes are organized by type and below includes notes with island and date. Ends with a specimen catalog with number, type, sex, measurements and weight. In addition to locations listed above includes Midway, Kure, and Christmas [Kiritimati].
