Abstract

The field book describes the itinerary and specimens collected by Griffiths and others in Washington, Oregon and Nevada in 1902. Entries are dated and include specimen lists, frequent references to cattle, grazing, and the availability or lack of water in a given area. Species abundance or rarity are also sometimes noted. At least two collecting events appear to be described in this volume. For the first, there is a note that numbers 1-18 were collected by Griffiths and Cottoce, though no identifications are given for these. For numbers 19 - 556, information provided varies but generally includes genus or genus and species. Occasionally, only a note describing the type of site in which the specimen was found (e.g., "553 roadside and pasture weed." The second collecting event begins in Oregon on July 5 and includes numbers 1-554.
