Abstract

Volume 68 is the journal and species accounts of Phillip C. Shelton completed for the Pacific Ocean Biological Survey Program, in Johnston Atoll, January 24 - September 6, 1969. This is a copy of a handwritten journal. Dated entries describe daily work; behaviors of individual and colonies of birds, nest and eggs, by type; bird banding; other wildlife on island (seals,cats, dogs); island vegetation; account of monk seal giving birth on beach; weather; and references to band numbers. Descriptions are often listed under headings. Includes maps with notes. Species accounts are organized by type of bird and date of observation.
