Abstract

Volume 65 includes multiple journals by multiple creators completed for the Pacific Ocean Biological Survey Program, 1966-1968. Journals are a mix of typed and hand written copies. 1) is the journal of Philip C. Shelton from Southern Island Cruise [SIC] #13 and Offshore Oahu, April 13 - June 2, 1966. Entries are dated and headed with island. Entries detail daily activities like bird surveying, bird banding, blood sampling, and bird counts; observations of individual and colonies of birds, eggs, and nests; other wildlife; observations of vegetation including plant lists. Locations include Enderbury, Phoenix [Rawaki], Hull, McKean, Oahu island. 2) is the journal of P. Shelton for Lisianski Island, June 16-20, 1966. Includes a list of personnel, observations of plants, algae common on island and their general locations, and work itinerary while on island, map with notes, and species accounts for types of birds and plants. 3) is the journal of Ralph Schreiber for Midway, Kure, and Honolulu, June 11 - October 20, 1966. Includes postal addresses for while on cruise. Entries are dated, and include details about observed birds (individual and populations), their eggs (measurements) and nests; bird population management around military installations; daily activities with times of day; preprinted observation sheets; and lizard collecting on Line and Phoenix [Rawaki] (listing number, type, island location, date, collector). Locations include Eastern, Sand, and Malden. Includes maps. 3) is the journal of Ralph Schreiber for work completed in Sand-Johnston, October 20 - December 31, 1966. Dated entries interactions with participants; detail daily work with times of day included; consistent recording of bird counts through day and night; descriptions of birds' individual and population behaviors, nests and eggs, and habitat (these are often organized by type of bird); bird populations around guywires; and observations with references to band numbers. Includes a map. 4) is the journal of R. Schreiber for Sand-Johnston and Main Hawaiian Islands, January 1 - March 4, 1967. Dated entries describe weather, data tables for observed characters, behaviors and quantities of types of birds, nests and eggs; birds around guywires; bird banding with references to specific numbers. 5) is Schreiber's journal for Sand-Johnston, February 13, July 16 - August 13, 1968. Includes structure and content similar to other journals described above. Details observations and specimen collecting.
