Abstract

This diary documents Nelson's field research in and travels through Mexico and Guatemala between 18 November 1895 and 14 August 1896. Nelson begins in La Trinidad, spends some time in Guatemala, then returns to Mexico ending at Carneros. Nelson's notes mostly describe agriculture and the vegetation of the locations visited. Locations include La Trinidad, valley of Chiapas River, San Luis Potosi, and Carneros station in Mexico, and Todos Santos, Quetzaltenango, El Quemado, and Santa Maria in Guatemala. Some notes on geology and culture of the people are included. Nelson comments about the treatment of Indians.
