Abstract

This unbound log book contains bathythermograph (BT) log sheets from Vema cruise 26 from August 1968 and April and May, 1968. Also included are BT log sheets from Vema cruise 27 from July to September, 1969. There are 7 blank sheets. Each sheet is stabled to carbon paper and a duplicate sheet. Summary of routes: Vema cruise 26 BT logs record information from the North Atlantic Ocean from off the coast of the mid-Atlantic US to the Southeast US and Bermuda. Vema cruise 27 BT logs record information from the North Atlantic Ocean to the Norwegian Sea (including the northern portion of the Norwegian Sea, formerly known as Greenland Sea). The bathythermograph log records the following information: slide no., BT no., local time, log miles, coordinates, distance from last observed, sounding in fathoms, barometer, conditions of weather and sea, wind, surface temperature, wet B. temperature, dry B. temperature, clouds, BT depth, and note on back (y/n). The back of the cover (cover verso) has instructions for what information to fill in the bathythermograph (BT) log sheets.
