Abstract

This field book documents Nelson's field research in various areas within Mexico between 3 March and 8 June 1893. Nelson's daily notes are written in the narrative style and describe the flora and fauna, particularly birds and small mammals, of the areas explored. Includes some taxonomic names. Nelson occasionally includes weather conditions, temperatures, elevations / altitude, and geological notes, particularly of glaciers and boulders. Locations noted in this book include, but are not limited to Tula, El Chico, Irolo, Tehuacán, and Perote (the mountain Cofre de Perote). Nelson includes this note on the title page: "for trip to Pop [Popocatepetl] and Izt [Iztaccihuatl] see other journals--also for trip up Mt. Origaba." Nelson occasionally describes social customs and civic structure of cities he visits.
