Abstract

This field book documents Nelson's exploration of Popocatepetl, Tlamacas, and Iztaccihuatl in Mexico between 21 February and 1 March 1893. Nelson's daily notes are written in the narrative style and describe the flora and fauna, particularly birds, of the areas explored. Includes some taxonomic names. Lizards and spiculae (skeletons of sponge or coral like invertebrates) are also noted. Descriptions of other specimen may also be included. Nelson's notes occasionally include weather conditions and temperatures, elevations / altitude, and descriptions of terrain. Two lists included in the back of the notebook: "Plants from Iztaccihuatl" numbers 12-16, and "Plants from Popocatepetl" numbers 1-10.
