Abstract

This field book documents Nelson's field research in Mexico between 1 June and 5 October 1892. The majority of the notes, particularly in the first half of this journal, describe the social customs, political and civic structure, clothing, and architecture of the places Nelson visits. Toward the end of the journal (and to a lesser extent, sprinkled throughout the rest of Nelson's notes), are natural history observations. Nelson describes the flora and fauna, focusing on birds and small mammals mostly in San Luis and surrounding areas. Nelson also notes animal that he captured. Taxonomic names and some common names are included. Some annotations (particularly for taxonomic names and locations names) by unknown person are also included. Locations include San Luis, Jesús María, Villar, and other locations.
