Abstract

Charles D. Walcott records geological observations of Chuar Canyon and Unkar Valley along the Colorado River, December 18, 1882-February 10, 1883. The journal style entries are listed by date and pages are numbered. He includes overview descriptions of the formations, and then details descriptions of formations and stone observed, usually in descriptions of sections. He describes Devonian, Carboniferous, and Algonkian layers and fossils found. Detailed descriptions are also given of erosion in valleys, buttes, and lava deposits. Detailed sketches are found throughout.
