Abstract

Color slides document work completed by Waldo L. Schmitt during the Smithsonian-Bredin Caribbean Expedition, 1956. Slides are labeled with location, number, and sometimes a description or name of person photographed. Subject matter includes the cultivation of sugarcane and shipping of sugar; vistas of bays and coastline from shore; candid images of participants and crew; preparing specimens; collecting on the beach; aboard the sailing vessel; countryside of islands; communities visited; and collecting with a seine net. Locations include the vicinity of Porto Rico [Puerto Rico], Grenadines [Grenadine Islands], Trinidad, Antigua, Barbados, and Martinique.
