Abstract

Color slides document the work of Waldo L. Schmitt during the Smithsonian-Bredin Belgian Congo Expedition, 1955. Some labels include numbers, location, and description. Subject matter includes laboratory facilities, locations from where soil samples collected, bodies of water, candid images of participants at work, candid images of indigenous individuals and families, and examples of local residences. Additionally, there are images of places visited in Europe enroute to Africa. Locations include Munich (Germany); Nile; Nuer (Sudan); Uvira, Brazzaville, Stanleyville [Kisangani], Wagenia and Mangbetu (Congo); and Ishango.
