Abstract

Slides document the work of Waldo L. Schmitt's work during the Smithsonian-Bredin Belgian Congo Expedition, 1955. Slides often have labels that include a number, location, date, and brief description. Subject matter includes agricultural fields; ferries; vistas of a variety countryside throughout the expedition; indigenous tribes; monkeys, rhinoceros, elephants and other observed wildlife; communities, markets, local inhabitants and their families; Mangbetu and watusi dancers. Locations in Congo and areas of Africa include Ruindi [Rwindi], Wagenia, Gungala-nu-Bodio; Ishango, and Lake Tanganyika. Some images may be duplicates of photographs in collection division 15.
