Abstract

The color slides document work completed by Waldo L. Schmitt during the Alaska King Crab Investigation, 1940. Slides generally contain labels with date, number, and location; additionally labels sometimes includes time of day or names of people pictured. Subject matter includes views of people, equipment, and methods of commercial fishing for Alaska King Crab; birds; specimens; views of coastline; glaciers; communities visited; and candid portraits of local inhabitants and participants. Locations in Alaska and the Aleutian Islands include Chignik Island, Ikatan Bay, Alitak Bay, Canoe Bay, Squaw Harbor and Pavlof Bay.
