Vema cruise 24 data sheets, January 1967-December 1967 : part 5, November 1967 to December 1967

Abstract

This item is part 5 of a 5 part unbound logbook from Vema 24, January to November, 1967. Part 5 covers cruise information taking place between November 10 to December 13, 1967. Summary of route: during this final leg of the cruise they begin at around 25° s, 44° w, off the coast near Rio de Janeiro, and sails north along the east coast of South American ending near the Bahamas. Detailed logs include the following sample data: ship-cruise, ship station, sample and number of samples, coordinates, date, local start and finish time, duration, wire angle, TDR no., corrected depth range, type tow, opening-closing, sampler type, ship speed, TSK flowmeter no. and reading, temperature, salinity. Logs also include the following environmental data: surface water temp., air temp., sky conditions, cloud cover, sea conditions, wave height, wind speed, water transparency, BT slide info, BS slide info, Hydro station no. and type, surface salinity sample no., core no., depth to bottom, other sample information, comments (successful tow? If not, why?), observer name. The back (verso) of the detailed logs record the following: Ship station, sample no., vol. H20 filtered, flowmeter calibration factor, displacement vol., wire angle data, hydro station data (depth, temp., salinity). Some detailed logs sheets include time-depth recorders (made by Benthos, Inc), which are approximately 3 inches in diameter. Each of these has a date, time, coordinates, ship name, recorder number, (and a place to record calibration).
