Abstract

Miscellaneous notes and maps cover work completed by Waldo Schmitt during the Palmer Peninsula (Antarctica) Survey, 1962-1963. Notes come in a variety of forms including a "general abstracted narrative from Capt. MacDonald's notes" that includes dates, destinations, water conditions, air and water temperatures, and overview of daily activities of participants; copies of naval messages from USS Staten Island (AGB-5) detail work about collecting topographical data and collecting; list of bottom samples collected, with location and depth included; notes for recognizing types of penguins; and history of region and personal opinions. Maps have hand written notes about locations. Locations included are throughout the islands surrounding Palmer Peninsula, including Adelaide Island, Hope Bay, Argentine Island, Discovery Bay, and Admiralty Bay among others.
