Abstract

The Waldo Schmitt's miscellaneous notes are from his work during the Palmer Peninsula (Antarctica) Survey, 1962-1963. Many of the notes relate to judging the suitability of sites for collecting, conditions during collecting, and dates of these observations. Some notes consist of lists, others are journal style in structure. Many have related dates. Some notes include citations or brief summaries of 19th and 20th century collecting/expedition history of the area. Locations discussed often include not just islands but also their bays, coves, and harbors. Includes notes on Deception Island, memo of procedures for aboard USS Staten Island (AGB-5), program notes on criteria for site selection, and map indicating selected sites of interest. These include South Shetland Islands, Hope Bay, Snow Hill-Cape Longing, D. De Gerlache Strait,E. Grandidier Channel, F. Marin Darbel Bay, and Adelaide Island.
