Abstract

Correspondence documents work that was completed during the Palmer Peninsula (Antarctica) Survey, 1962-1963. Correspondence covers 1962-1966. Subject matter covers expenses, locations resided enroute to Antarctica, invitation to Smithsonian to send staff to Department of Defense sites in Antarctica as part of the US exchange representative program, ongoing business at the Smithsonian, fieldwork, and copies of his field notes (may include station numbers). Includes a letter detailing analysis results relating to specimens collected; attached is a list stating location, station numbers, specimen's scientific name, and quantity. Locations include Anvers Island, Argentine Island, Paradise Harbor, Gamma Island, Discovery Bay, and Wiencke Island among others. Includes correspondence of Fenner A. Chace, Jr. and Alvina S. Schmitt (Mrs. Waldo LaSalle).
