Abstract

The black and white photographs and negatives document work completed during the Smithsonian-Bredin Caribbean Expedition, 1960 [Smithsonian-Bredin Expedition to Yucatan (1960)]. There are no captions on the back of the images. Images show expedition participants at work on sailing vessel; collecting and processing specimens; mangrove swamps; coastlines; and detail images of crustaceans, sponges, mangrove limbs. Negatives show images of structures and local inhabitants of islands visited. Locations visited during the expedition included Progresso, islands of Cozumel and Mujeres, and Ascension Bay near the coast of Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico.
