Abstract

This record refers to 3 field books created for the Pacific Ocean Biological Survey Program Southern Island Cruise 15, in 1966 on Howland Island. Envelope 1 contains a field book by F. C. Thompson that includes bird banding and returns data (listing band numbers 558-80854 to 777-58000); nest counts and area calculations; and two diagrams of nest areas surveyed. Envelope 2 contains a field book by R. W. Tuxson that includes bird banding and returns data and notes for Blue-faced boobies and Red-footed boobies (listing band numbers 558-85071 to 797-25631); and nest counts. The field book also includes notes documenting nest marking activities, bird nesting behaviors, and other bird observations. Envelope 3 contains a field book by R. W. Tuxson that includes a blood catalog with 200 sera samples. The catalog lists number (602-801), species, age, sex, nesting status, and band number (558-85098 to 953-27080).
